Massage is an instinctive human response: whenever you bump your body against something, you intuitively rub the hurt spot and the 'ouch' soon goes away. This basic knowledge has developed over countless generations into a sophisticated healing art and science.

Professional therapeutic massage is an age-old healing practice, which can alleviate physical, mental and emotional ailments. It is recognized that rubbing can bind a joint that is too loose and loosen a joint that is too rigid.

In one form or another, the practice of massage developed throughout the ancient world, dating back to the Chinese in 3000 BC. References in the bible refer to anointment of the body with oil. In 460 BC, Hypocrates, who is considered a father of medicine, already prescribed it as a beneficial treatment for his patients and recommended that all physicians should be experienced in the techniques of rubbing.

Massage is a scientific method of manipulating the soft tissues of the body to achieve a specific effect. Among its objectives are the restoration of tissue functions, release of tensions and help in re-establishing a fitter body contour.
